Living Room Reveal
I’m so excited to finally reveal our living room makeover to you. I partnered with La-Z-Boy to furnish our living room almost exclusively with La-Z-Boy furniture and accessories. The furniture from La-Z-Boy arrived a while ago, but the rug was backordered for several months. My La-Z-Boy in store designer asked me twice if I wanted to chose another rug, but I’m so glad I decided to wait. I love the rug and can honestly say that it was well worth the wait!
Before we get to the tour, I think it’s only fair to show you a few pictures of the progression of the living room over the years. About a year after we bought the house in 2007, I painted the walls a lighter sage green and added sconces. We also paid a contractor to double the width of the opening to the kitchen. That made a huge difference. You can see the missing flooring where the small opening used to be below:
The sofa was a hand-me-down from my Godfather’s parents.
Underneath the red slipcover was this fabulously reupholstered sofa. Can you tell what year I re-covered it?
Ummm, hello 1990’s hunter green plaid. I don’t have a photo, but under this plaid monster is the original fabric from the 60’s. It was a floral woven tapestry fabric. I still can’t believe we sat on this sofa that was over 50 years old. It was hard as a rock.
In 2009, I pulled up the wall-to-wall carpeting and installed antique heart pine wood flooring. I also painted the previously painted white fireplace to look like brick again. You read that right, the brick is painted!
In 2011, I covered the sofa with a new slipcover, but it was still the same uncomfortable hard sofa. We also tried positioning the sofa at an angle in the room.
This past winter we moved the furniture around again and for the first time we felt that we had found an arrangement that worked for us.
If you recall, I took a little field trip to our local La-Z-Boy furniture gallery back in December. I met with Lexie, the designer, who was invaluable with her expertise and design advice. Then you all helped me by voting for your favorite fabric selection (big virtual kisses and hugs from me to you for that!)
The voting was a tie, so I combined fabrics from the two winners and ultimately chose this combination:
Ready to see how they look in the living room? Are you telling me to shut up already and get to the reveal? Your wish is my command, here is our living room reveal:

Last week, I introduced you to Cory by La-Z-Boy, a rolling ottoman with storage. Be sure to read more about my love affair with this guy!
Every living room needs a place to store DVDs, Wii games, and remotes. These boxes can hide a lot, but still look pretty.
I bought the bottom one from our local La-Z-Boy gallery. Everything they have in the showroom is for sale, down to the vases, art and throw blankets.
This layout has proven perfect for us. We use the living room to watch movies, read books and lounge around.
All four of us can get cozy together on the sofa, but if we have company over to watch the big game, we can turn the two chairs around and roll the ottoman in front of the fireplace for more seating.
You may remember the post I wrote on creating the perfect gallery wall (to hide your TV.) I really love having all the personal mementos on the wall.
The console under the TV is the Crossnore Sofa Table also from La-Z-Boy. Unfortunately, I snagged the last one in our store, but they have many beautiful media consoles and tables to choose from online.
The leaf tray is another accessory I purchased from our local La-Z-Boy gallery.
By far, one of my favorite chairs is the Cosmopolitan. It has beautiful modern styling and it is extremely comfortable. Unfortunately I got one of the last ones, but there are many other great La-Z-Boy living room chairs.
The fabric I chose for the Cosmopolitan is called Bradstreet Lemongrass. It it bright, cheery and allows the beautiful nailhead trim to stand out.
The sofa fabric was chosen in a neutral color so it can be dressed up with pillows.
The fabric is an amazingly soft microfiber fabric that feels and looks like velvet! It’s called Piccolo Stone.
The sofa is the Bree, but again, I got one of the last ones. However, La-Z-Boy has many sofa designs and a new one that has the same stylish lines with beautiful turned feet called the Leighton.
The floor lamp was purchased from Pottery Barn, but I am not very happy with it. It looks beautiful, but the quality feels cheap. Lesson learned. Next time I’ll look for one at La-Z-Boy.
This little Structure Wedge Rolling Corner Table is another one of my favorite multi-functional pieces. It takes up very little space and can be rolled around in the room to accommodate where we are sitting. Plus, it has a lower shelf to store magazines or books.
I can’t tell you how much I love to clip greens from our yard. The beauty berry is blooming now in NC and I love those cute little purple berries.
The “vase” is another La-Z-Boy accessory. I think it’s a wine tote, but I popped two drink bottles into it to use as a vase. The leather and brass on the tote is reminiscent of a horse bridle and stirrups.
One of the things that La-Z-Boy is known for is comfort. (The other is quality construction.) When I was looking at furniture, I wanted to get Pretty Handsome Guy a classic comfortable La-Z-Boy recliner. This is the Bradley. When you sit in the Bradley, you feel like you sunk into a cloud. Yet, it looks nothing like your father’s slouchy recliner.
Especially because it has piped arms with beautiful nailhead trim.
Can I get a “Heck YES!” for beautiful nail head trim?
I got a lot of questions and compliments on this rug after my post on Friday. Yes, the rug is also from La-Z-Boy. It’s the Surya Watercolor WAT-5004 rug. The rug is handwoven wool, but has a soft silky feel to it. The rug isn’t as thick as our previous rug, but I don’t care because it looks beautiful and doesn’t shed nearly as much as our other wool rugs. If you want a thick feel, you can place a thicker pad underneath.
I’ll leave you with a few more accessories I bought at La-Z-Boy:
These hand-painted bottles were screaming my name. The colors are vibrant and have a global feel.
What do you think? The artist in me couldn’t go with a white monochromatic room, I had to have lots of color.

Gorgeous!! I love that you use color in your home (like me!) I couldn’t live in an all white world nor could I live in an all white home, ha ha! You made great choices, very classic and timeless.
Can you please tell me which color Surya Watercolor rug you have? It’s beautiful. We’ve been looking at those area rugs but none seem to be the beautiful colors you have.
Wow! It looks really cool!
