25 Dreamy Blue Paint Color Choices
It’s no secret that one of the quickest and least expensive ways to transform a room is with paint. Choosing the right color, however, can be tricky. It’s always recommended to paint some sample colors in the room you’ll be painting. Both natural and artificial lighting play huge roles in how the hues appear at different times of the day. After you’ve painted samples, see how they look in the morning light, afternoon and with ambient lighting in the evenings.
Many people lean towards neutrals for wall colors, but light blues and aquas bring in the airy tranquil feelings of the sky or surf. Be lulled into a peaceful tranquility by these 25 dreamy blue rooms. You’ll soon discover that these colors do anything but give you the ‘blues’.

Colleen I have a dilemna, getting new kitchen cabinets, they are Old Bay Hickory from menards, didn’t know it would be so difficult picking a paint color to make them pop while still keeping the room with a light airy ocean tropical feel. I have black countertops. Can you suggest a pretty blue, not to dark with the right hues for my walls ? I was thinking of a glass tile backsplash in lighter blues, touch of greens and white or cream tones in it? would that go? I like Behr paint or sherwin williams. Help please, going to be doing this in the next couple of weeks.
Diana, I’d suggest using white or cream tones in your tile if you are planning on painting the walls blue. That way the tiles won’t compete or disappear next to the blue walls.
It’s hard to recommend a blue. I’d chose two or three from this post and then use these tips for picking the perfect paint colors: https://prettyhandygirl.com/how-to-pick-the-perfect-paint-color/ It’s full of great tips!
Very good article. I came across your site while searching for a great blue to paint a piece of furniture. I like Copen Blue too! We have lived with Sherwin Williams Sleepy Blue in our bedroom and Jetstream at 75% in the kitchen for a year and love both!
I’m getting ready to paint my craft room which is plywood now and has no windows since it was an addition in the garage. I liked Tranquil Blue by Benjamin Moore and Rainwater by Martha Stewart.
Thank you so much for the timely colors that won’t be too light and will go great with white storage shelving and possibly some bright colors for other storage items maybe yellow or red.
Colleen – I am so glad that I happened upon this blog/article. We just purchased a home, my kitchen (which I understand through previous owners was renovated in 2000) has oak cabinets with an oak floor, white-tiled backsplash, and green faux-marbled formica countertops. The walls are painted white. Can you recommend a color so that the oak does not take over the whole kitchen? Thank you so much!
Oh wow, Rita. I can just imagine your kitchen. 🙂
I’d first start with Brittany’s post today: https://prettyhandygirl.com/how-to-pick-the-perfect-paint-color/ It’s full of great tips!
Also, for the oak, consider doing either a stain or a wash. Both will change the color but still allow the woodgrain to show.
Good luck!
Hi there, I think you are wrong about the YHL’s bedroom color. I’m pretty they used Gentle Tide in their first house’s master bedroom, not the bedroom you show pictured. That bedroom shown is from their second house and was painted something along the lines of Carolina Club Inn Aqua. Not sure the brand though.
Rachel, I just double checked and you are an amazing source of YHL information! You are correct and I changed the color name immediately. THANK YOU THANK YOU sooo much for pointing out the error.
Absolutely wonderful, I love them all!
Just built new house, and you would not believe how pretty Valspar paint in the color of …Evening Stroll is.
Makes me just smile when I walk into our bedroom
It’s so wonderful when our homes make us smile. I’ll have to go check out “Evening Stroll”. Thanks for sharing!
I just painted the upper part of our hallway (has a chair rail) Clear Pond by Behr. Love me some blue!
“Clear Pond” – just the name sounds inviting!
Great post Colleen. I am partial to these shades of blue since I have various shades around my house. I glazed my dining room walls in various shades of blues to blue-greens, then hand painted leaves around some areas. I need to update my blog about it. You’ve inspired me!
I’d love to see it, Colleen. I’m partial to glazing too!
How timely- I am in the midst of painting our keeping room/ breakfast area. I painted a feature wall in Sherwin Williams Aleutian- it’s a bit darker than any of these choices, but I love it.
I like deeper tones on focal walls. Helps to draw the eye there. Can’t wait to see your rooms!
I wondered if you would include what I think is my all time favorite blue and you did! Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams. At least it was my favorite because I see a dozen more I would like to try now.
Who knew there were so many beautiful blues! Glad we included your favorite 😉
I love blue! Especially the Copen Blue on Brittany’s cabinets! Great roundup 🙂
Debbie
Thanks Debbie! Isn’t Brittany’s kitchen incredible?
Wow! I love Benjamin Moore Tranquil Blue. That will be my choice if I would repaint my room. 😉
It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? One of my faves too.
