Lowe’s Spring Makeover Reveal
**This project and post has been sponsored by Lowe’s Home Improvement. They are a company that works hard to give back to the community. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to make a difference in one family’s life. Thank you, Lowe’s!**
You guys, there is one thing I love more than a beautiful makeover. That one thing is giving a beautiful makeover to a deserving family. Elizabeth and Jörg moved to this home in September. They had no family nearby and didn’t know a lot of people in the area. And then one of the harshest winters on record hit. For this family, the winter brought more than cold and snow. They also dealt with their youngest being hospitalized and a miscarriage. Elizabeth’s sister, Sarah applied to give Elizabeth and Jörg a landscape makeover. As the oldest of three girls, I know how awful it feels when one of my sisters is hurting. And I know I’d do anything to help them.
That’s why it felt so good to give up four days (two travel and two work days) to give this young family a beautiful makeover.
If you remember, this is what the home looked like the morning we arrived. No landscaping.
No pathway. No railings. No plants.
No grass or defined play space. In one respect, we had a clean slate, but it left us with a lot to do!
And, I couldn’t have done it without all these heroes!
After two days of non-stop working, we kicked the homeowners out of the yard, sent them inside and told them they couldn’t look at their yard for the last few hours of the makeover. When they came out, their reaction was priceless:
Both Elizabeth and I were moved to tears.
Here’s what their new landscaping and front of their home looks like now!
Although Elizabeth and Jörg saw my mood board and landscaping plans ahead of time, I enjoyed keeping one project a surprise from them. Their original mailbox was a sad sight.
We gave them a new mailbox and mailbox post when they weren’t looking. 😉
I’m in love with the metal mailbox. The door has a strong earth magnet which makes closing it a real snap. If I didn’t build my own mailbox, I’d buy this one in a heartbeat!
It’s hard to say who likes their new yard best. Liam loves the new pathway.
Charlotte claimed this as her chair.
I know Jörg and Elizabeth were giddy over the new patio. I foresee many “date nights” after dark in the front yard while the kids sleep inside.
The new landscaping and curb appeal better fits this family’s warm and welcoming personality. I can honestly say it was a pleasure getting to meet and know them better.
A special thanks goes out to my fellow DIY bloggers, Beckie and Jenn who helped me beyond belief. Building the railings with two female builders was lots of fun and super easy. It seems we tend to think alike. Maybe I need to convince them both to move to Raleigh. We’d make a fantastic team.
Thank you also to Elizabeth, Jörg, Liam and Charlotte for trusting me with your home and letting 25 of us descend on your yard for two whirlwind days.

Hi Brittany, I’ve seen the progress in your other post. The results are outstanding. I love the Lowe’s wooden bench.
This is amazing Brittany. The look on their faces really does say it all, good moment of reflection before getting back to the hustle =)
This is totally amazing!! You should all be very proud of yourselves for a great job. Lowe’s sounds like a great company and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will take over some of the closed Target stores here in my area.
In the meanwhile, again, Brittany, congratulations….it must have been worth it all just for the big smiles on the face of that family!
Thanks Linda! Yes, I love Lowe’s. Hope you get one near you ;-).
My favorite part is the mailbox!!
That mailbox is sweet! Thanks Linda.

Barbara, you are one lucky gal to be good friends with Elizabeth. I miss her already and hope our paths will cross one day.
where is the link for the instructions on how to install the pavers?
Debbie, there are some instructions here for installing a paver patio. http://www.lowes.com/projects/porch-deck-and-patio/installing-patios-and-walkways/project The gravel and digging requirements will vary based on your region.
