Auto Cup Holder Extender

Auto Cup Holder Extender | Pretty Handy Girl

Do you have a solid cup holder in your car that doesn’t hold all size bottles and cups? The console cup holder in our older Honda CRV has been a constant source of frustration for myself and Pretty Handsome Guy. When we drive around a corner the larger water bottles will inevitably tumble. Finally, I got tired of our bottles tipping and spilling on turns.

I found the solution in the plumbing aisle at Lowe’s! This plumbing part has solved our problem by becoming an auto cup holder extender.

It’s called a 3″ PVC Cleanout Adapter Fitting and it costs less than $4. Simply run a line of hot glue onto the bottom of the fitting and set it onto the car cup holder.

Now we can take turns like a race car driver and not worry about those taller bottles and drinks spilling.

Do you have any other auto tips or tricks for keeping your auto clean? I could use a little more help in that department.

Really cool, I was thinking if you didn’t want to glue it you could glue just enough felt around the bottom circumference so that you could squeeze it in there.

Thank you so much for this DIY PVC drink holder hack! It totally solved my Tervis Tumbler tipping problem in my Honda Odyssey (’03)! For less than $4 I now have a functional drink holder without resulting to hack sawing my center console or paying $$$ for Amazon prefab holders. You are a great person for sharing this with everyone!

Omg thank you. We have a first gen and second gen CRV (yes we love the older models… the new ones got too small). The cup holders suck in both cars. I will check out the plumbing section at Home Depot next time. Do these hold the bigger 44 oz cups?

OMG, this is brilliant. I have been looking for something to keep my convenient store polar pops from tipping out of my older Odyssey cup holders and tho my style cup is more top-heavy than the water bottle shown, this has sent me down the path to a viable solution. Thank you for sharing!!

Had an issue with my 2006 Honda Odyssey with similar shallow cupholders. They would no longer hold my smartphone when I went to a bigger phone (LG G4) and it would go flying out of the holder every time I took a turn. Saw this idea on your blog and headed over to Lowes. I ended up going with a black abs 3″ to 2″ reducer and the 3″ portion holds my phone secure perfectly. $4 problem solved. Thanks for the great idea as it certainly wasn’t something I was thinking of. Cheers!

I still love this idea ,I had forgotten it….now another question…have you figured a DIY idea for securing the garmin on the dash. The sucky things don’t work on the dashboard and we are not crazy about mounting it on the upper windshield.
I have seen something clever with clips,I think but don’t know where. Have you or hubs figured anything out? Thanks…

This is awesome! I can see that it needs to be covered in fabric or paper because I’m an artist like that.
Thanks for the spark of genius!

I love this idea, except for the glueing part. I’m going to try it in my husbands car. Hopefully it will fit snug enough. Thanks for the tip.

I had to do something similar in my car. I found a plastic cup that is about that size and it secures my drink perfectly and actually gives a brace to the drink next to it. This is great.
