Tool Review – Black and Decker GYRO
I finally finished installing the Flow Wall in the arts & crafts studio. And I had some help from this little guy:
This is the Black & Decker GYRO, it’s a cordless screwdriver, but it has one amazing feature. It is smart enough to sense which direction you want to turn and will begin to move in that direction at the slightest tilt of your hand. (I wish I had a tool that could sense the direction my mind is going on this kitchen remodel, but that model might be more complicated than rocket science.) The GYRO has a lithium battery which allowed me to assemble all the Flow Wall cabinets and cubes and I didn’t have to stop to recharge. Plus, it is supposed to hold a charge for up to 18 months while in storage! At $39.95, you might think that this little guy is priced a tad high. I thought the same thing until I took it for a spin (hee, hee pun intended.)
I shot a quick little video, because frankly I think this video will illustrate why I think it’s such a cool tool:
Cool tool huh? Another nice thing about the GYRO is that it is small enough to fit into tight spaces. This will be my “go to” tool when I have to install all the drawer pulls and cabinet door handles when our kitchen is done!
The GYRO is a great little power tool for little hands. My 6 year old really liked using it. The size made it less intimidating and he loved it so much he even illustrated a picture showcasing the tool.
My son is a great artist, don’t you think?! You could really tell that baldy with the red shirt is me. That’s why I’ve been working like crazy to finish our art & craft studio. It will be a room that we can enjoy together and create amazing art.
Stay tuned this week for more scenes from the Flow Wall Systems installation and some kitchen updates.
Disclosure: This is NOT a paid product review. Black and Decker sent me a complimentary GYRO to try at my convenience. I was not told what to write or say in this review, and I certainly didn’t tell my son what to draw ;-).

Wow, looks so easy to use!
Ooh, something to add to my Christmas wish list! I have such a bad sense of direction, though, it might get a tad confused with me. 🙂
I am putting that little baby on my Christmas wish list. Thanks for sharing, did not even know this gadget exsisted. hugs Tobey
that looks like just what i need cuz I feel that the others are too heavy for my hands. Can’t wait to try one. Thanks for sharing.
This is so awesome. I hate holding up my HEAVY cordless drill. makes my arms ache. Can you change the bits?
Elizabeth, yes, the GYRO holds regular hex bits. I don’t think it will replace the drilling function of your HEAVY drill, but it is great at driving screws. 😉
what a great idea for christmas presents!
Oh definitely a great Christmas present for the Handy Gal (or Guy) who has everything!
I so need one of those!!! It would make my life easier instead of getting the big drill out which can be a bit awkward. Thanks!
Crystal, If you are using a drill to drive screws, this is a good alternative. I don’t think it would have enough power to drill holes in hardwoods, but I haven’t tested that function yet.
OH how awesome! I hate using an old Phillips but I am not coordinated enough for a big drill!
This looks perfect, thanks for the heads up!!!
Christina, this definitely doesn’t weigh as much as a drill. But, it also doesn’t have the power to drill through hardwoods (in my opinion.)
